Girls Aloud Biography

Girls Aloud was an English-Irish pop group, formed in 2002 by Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh. They released 7 successful albums and 20 consecutive top 10 singles. In 2007 and 2011, Guinness World Records ranked them “Most Successful Reality TV Group“. They have been extremely popular, due to their catchy songs and dance-oriented videos, until their split in 2013.

Sound of the Underground – What Will the Neighbours Say

Girls Aloud were formed on ITV’s Popstars: The Rivals. The 5 girl-group won the contest with their single Sound of the Underground. The single spent 1 month at number 1 in the UK and received a platinum certification. Consequently, they released their debut album of the same title. The girls’ debut album peaked at number 2 and spawned several successful singles, most noteworthy a cover of the Pointer Sisters’ Jump. Furthermore, in the summer of 2004, the group released an even more acclaimed album, What Will the Neighbours Say?. It generated their emblematic singles Love Machine and Wake Me Up. 

Chemistry – Tangled Up –Out of Control 

After their first tour, Girls Aloud released their third album, Chemistry, another utter success. However, the first single, Long Hot Summer, was the first that didn’t reach top 5. Notably, Whole Lotta History, the fourth single was the highest-charting, at number 6. In 2006, the girls released a greatest hits album and another single, Something Kinda Ooooh. Furthermore, they released a cover of I Think We’re Alone Now and one of Aerosmith’s Walk This Way, with Sugababes.

In 2007, their fourth album, Tangled Up, came out. It spawned a series of top 5 singles, culminating with the popular hit Can’t Speak French. Additionally, they provided 2 songs for the movie St Trinian’s, in which they also made a cameo appearance. In 2008, their fifth album, Out of Control, topped the UK Albums Chart and went 2x Platinum. The lead single, The Promise, won Best British Single. The album then generated another top 10 single, The Loving Kind. After a 3-year hiatus, the girls released a charity single for Children in Need, Something New.
