Gente de Zona Biography

Gente de Zona is a Cuban reggaeton band founded in 2000, which found international success with their feature on Iglesias’ Bailando.

Early Formation

Alexander Delgado and Michel “El Caro” Delgado formed in 2000 in the Havana suburb of Alamar. They performed in local clubs and private parties as a hip-hop group.

Career Beginnings

In 2005, El Caro left the duo, as a consequence Alexander brought in 2 other members Yosdany Carmenates and Fernando Otero. Alexander was very connected to his Cuban roots, so when he switched to a reggaeton sound, he made sure the music was blended with both genres. Pa’ la Gente de Mi Zona was released a single, followed by a self-titled album and by several other hits. In 2007 they issued their second album with the title Lo Mejor Que Suena Ahora under the management of Planet Records. After a few years, their revealed 2 more albums in 2010 and 2012: A Full and Oro: Lo Nuevo y lo Mejor. The single El Animal made the trio very popular in Cuba. In 2012 Alexander remained alone when the other 2 members left to pursue solo careers.

Success

Nonetheless, Randy Malcom Martinez joined him and along with the orchestra Habana de Primera, the duo was able to reach an International audience. Gente de Zona collaborated with Pitbull and Enrique Iglesias.The latter collab spawned the International major hit Bailando. Following the new found success they released the 2016 singles La Gozadera and Traidora with Marc Anthony. The Visualizate LP was revealed the same and won Best Tropical Fusion Album at the Latin Grammys.
