G-Eazy Biography

Gerald Earl Gillum, known as G-Eazy, is an American rapper and producer. He became famous in 2014 after his first commercial album, These Things Happen, hit number 3 on the Billboard 200. His second album, When It’s Dark Out, was released in 2015, with its lead single Me, Myself & I, featuring Bebe Rexha reaching number 7 on Billboard Hot 100. The two artists later collaborated again, for Rexha‘s song F.F.F.

A Difficult Star(t)

G-Eazy had a problematic childhood which inspired some of his songs. He was only in the first grade when his parents divorced and had to move in with his grandparents for a while. His mother started dating another woman which made the future rapper extremely confused and, furthermore, he came home one day to find the woman dead by overdose. This episode from his life is depicted in the song Everything Will Be OK from his latest album.

He actually started off as a record producer when he was still in college. Gradually he got to know the hip hop local scene but it was only in 2011 when he received real opportunities, like opening for notorious rappers like Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg. 2012 was a huge year for G-Eazy since he performed during the Vans Warped Tour and Excellent Adventure Tour. Most important, he released his first album Must Be Nice, an independent production, which got third place on the iTunes Hip-Hop Chart.

These Things Happen and When It’s Dark Out

His second album, a major-label this time, reached the top on the US Billboard‘s Hip-Hop/R&B and Top Rap Albums charts. Additionally, it won him number 3 on the US Billboard 200. Soon after this breakthrough, he performed in several high-profile music festivals, including Lollapalooza, Electric Forest etc. In 2015, he was also chosen as one of the top 10 most stylish by GQ Magazine. The beginning of 2016 caught him touring. During this tour he introduced his famous Me, Myself & I. Later that year, he performed his song at the MTV Video Music Awards and the iHeartRadio Music Festival. Finally collaborated with Britney Spears for the lead single from her upcoming album.
