Dreamcar Biography

Dreamcar is a new wave band formed in 2016, in LA, California. They gained instant recognition with their debut single Kill for Candy. The parent album is scheduled for 12 May 2017 and will include 12 songs.

Musical Background

Davey Havok, an already consecrated artist, lead vocalist of rock band AFI, decided to join strength with Tom Dumont, Tony Kanal and Adrian Young of No Doubt, and create a new project. Dreamcar was first mentioned on their social media channels in November 2016, teasing a 2017 single. “It’s like a rebirth, a really beautiful, pure and positive thing.” commented the frontman. The band also revealed future performances at Coachella.

Early Success

Kill for Candy came out in March and peaked at number 36 on the Alternative Songs chart and number 49 on the Rock Airplay chart. When asked about the band’s sound, Young replied: “It doesn’t sound like anything, it actually doesn’t sound like AFI or No Doubt. And sometimes I’m not objective enough to really understand it.”

Fans have compared the debut single with the music of Duran Duran and Tears for Fears. Furthermore, the band’s second single, Born To Lie, came out in April. Dreamcar described their upcoming eponymous as “very inspired by all the ’80s stuff that we love”.
