Dave East Biography
Born David Brewster, Jr. on 3 June 1988, Dave East grew up with a love for basketball that was only surpassed by his passion for music. He played for different amateur teams until University, when he decided he wants to focus on his rhymes.
Early Career
His 2010 mixtape titled Change of Plans reached almost no recognition. Not giving up, four more mixtapes followed. In 2013 East had to succumb to the dark paths of drug dealing to support his living and musical career.
Breakthrough
Fate had it so Nas heard Dave’s mixtapes and signed the young rapper to his label Mass Appeal Records. As soon as he released a mixtape with this label, he gained critical acclaim. Black Rose was followed by Hate Me Now. After different achievements, like appearing in the “Freshman Class” 2016 of XXL Magazine and being featured on the BET Hip Hop Awards, he signed to Def Jam Recordings.
In the fall of 2016, Dave issued the mixtape Kairi Chanel. It peaked at number 38 on the US Billboard 200. 2 Chainz, The Game and many others provided guest appearances. “I feel is my best work to date. I named it after my daughter, because she’s the greatest and most defining moment of my life. Everything I’ve done up until now has led me to her, so I translated that into music,” East said about his mixtape in an interview with Billboard.
