Creed is an American rock band formed in 1993 in Florida.
Creed Biography
Creed’s notorious lineup consists of Scott Stapp (lead vocalist), Mark Tremonti (guitarist and vocalist), Brian Marshall (bassist), and Scott Phillips (drummer).
Early Years
University friends Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti founded Creed in 1993. They held auditions and recruited 3 other members. One of the newly joined, Brian Brasher quit shortly after and the band remained in a four man formation. They self-released the debut album My Own Prison followed by a re-release through Wind-up Records. The reissued version had four singles, all of them reaching number one on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
Their second album Human Clay (1999) debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Embracing alcoholism and causing chaos, the bassist Marshall quit the band. Weathered (2001) followed the example set by Human Clay and also debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Stapp started going on a dark path regarding meds and alcohol. After a completely unsuccessful concert, the band broke up.
Coming Back To Life
An unexpected announcement came in 2009 when the band confirmed their reunion. After a handful of performances, Creed issued the album Full Circle in the fall of 2009. Regarding it, Stapp declared: “It really defines and articulates, melody-wise and lyrically, what’s happened with us. We’ve come full circle and it’s a great place to be.” Creed’s next move was to break four world records with a concert in Houston, Texas.
Personal issues between Tremonti and Stapp contributed to a non-existent 5th Creed album. In addition to this, Tremonti recorded a lot with his project Alter Bridge and couldn’t collaborate so much with Creed. A retrospective album for this band is on its way.
