Early Life
Jason Farris Brown was born in Athens, Georgia, on August 27, 1970, and grew up listening to country music, R&B, and hip-hop. Nonetheless, he chose a profession in golf until he broke his leg and had to quit. Jason chose to focus on music instead.
Career Beginnings
Colt started writing his own songs and earning co-writing credit for Jamey Johnson, Jeremy Popoff, and Lit. Montgomery Gentry and urban artist Jermaine Dupri were his other clients. For the latter, he wrote and made himself noticed with Buck ‘Em in 2006. Ford finally released his debut album Ride Through the Country under Average Joe’s Entertainment. It did not enter the Billboard charts until 2009. In 2010 he co-wrote and worked on Brantley Gilbert and Jason Aldean’s albums among many other collabs.
Success
The same year Colt released his sophomore effort in the form of Chicken & Biscuits followed by the third LP Every Chance I Get. Its lead single Country Thang was released and debuted at number 55 on the country charts. By now, Ford was becoming known for his hillbilly redneck public image. In contrast, he was a good businessman and a good songwriter and engaged in more collaborations with artists like Jeffrey Steele, Craig Wiseman, Rodney Clawson, and David Lee Murphy. Declaration of Independence was the result of that collab, Ford’s forth album. The album was a success as it reached number 1 on the Top Country Albums. Its single Back became a Top 40 country song, his highest charting track so far. He supported the album with a tour in 2012 followed by another tour with JJ Lawhorn. Thanks for Listening was next in 2014 and Love Hope Faith in 2017. 4 Lane Gone its lead single was released followed by the album on the May 5th, 2017.
