Celine Dion Biography

Céline Marie Claudette Dion is a Canadian singer and businesswoman. She is known for her countless successful love songs, with My Heart Will Go On as one of the most iconic heartbreak songs in history. Dion is overall one of the best-selling artists of all time, with over 200 million albums sold worldwide.

Early Career & My Heart Will Go On

Celine Dion began her career by composing French songs, releasing a total of 9 albums before her coming of age. Her first English album came, Unison,  in 1990 and was a high-seller. In 1992 she gained major exposure due to her theme song for Beauty and the Beast. The song reached Billboard Hot 100 and brought Celine both a Grammy and an Academy Award. Her second album, Celine Dion, sold over 12 million copies. The self-titled CD spawned the hit song If You Asked Me To, which dominated the US charts.

In 1993, the artist released another top-selling album, The Colour of My Love, which consecrated Dion’s romantic power ballads as her trademark. Most noteworthy, the song My Heart Will Go On, featured on the Oscar-winning Titanic, became an international legend among love songs. It was later included on the album Let’s Talk About Love. In 1998, Celine Dion received National Order of Quebec. Additionally, during that same year, she won 6 Billboard Music Awards.

2000 – Present

After a couple of years of focusing on her family, Celine Dion released one of her most popular albums, A New Day Has Come, a charting success in 17 countries. However, her next album, One Heart, did not make such an impact. Therefore, in 2003, the pop queen returned to composing French songs and released two albums, 1 Fille and 4 Types. Moreover, in 2004 she released a children’s music album. In 2007, she released Taking Chances and D’Elles. Dion was still famous and acclaimed but did not sell as much anymore. However, in 2009 Forbes declared her the second best-selling artist, after Madonna.
