Calibre 50 are a Mexican award-winning quartet from Sinaloa who released in 2010 their debut album, Renovar O Morir. They are also known for their dedication to their craft and fandom.
Early Formation
The band was formed by lead vocalist and accordionist Eden Muñoz, vocalist and guitarist Armando Ramos, tubaist Martín López, and drummer Augusto. They started performing wherever they were invited. After some hard work, they were able to get a record deal.
Career Beginnings
Calibre 50 finally released the debut album in Renovar O Morir in 2010. Singles like Callejero y Mujeriego and El Tierno Se Fue brought them radio airplay and attention on YouTube. In 2011, they released the second album, De Sinaloa Para el Mundo which proved to be more successful and spawned hits like El Tierno Se Fue and Te Estoy Engañando con Otra.
Breakthrough
The rest of the year they embarked on a hard touring schedule and revealed the 2012 LP El Buen Ejemplo. It produced four hit singles like Mujer de Todos, Mujer de Nadie, Bohemio Loco, El Buen Ejemplo, and Gente Batallosa. The last song was a duet with Carnivale which became a favorite of Mexico and won the Billboard Award for Song of the Year Vocal Collaboration. Relentless, they issued the next album La Recompensa that spawned hits like Aquí Estoy. The track was a number 1 on the Regional Mexican Music chart in Mexico and the US. The same year, the arrival of Corridos de Alto Calibre and the single El Immigrante arrived. The latter was number 1 hit and stayed there for more than 10 weeks in Mexico.
Changes
In 2014 some changes had to be made because of the intense work, so Lopez and Augusto were replaced by tubaist Alejandro Gaxiola and drummer Erick Garcia. With a new line-up in place, the Contigo album was issued.The same year, Calibre 50 were signed to Sony. In 2015 they released the risque single Se Nos Volvió a Pelar Mi Apá which was banned from the radio. Soon followed the LP Historia de la Calle which took a different direction into northern corridos, reggae, cumbias, and rancheras. The album was a success as well as the next Desde el Rancho, revealed in 2016.
