Blondie Biography

Blond is an iconic pop rock band, formed by Debbie Harry and Chris Stein. The band pioneered the early new wave and punk scenes, in the mid to late 70s. After that, they began releasing hit singles, such as Call Me and Heart of Glass, incorporating numerous musical elements in their sound. After a long hiatus, Blondie released another top single, Maria. In 2006, the group was added to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. They are still performing and will release a new album, Pollinator,  in May 2017.

Early Career

In the early-1970s, Debbie Harry joined a glitter-rock band, the Stilettoes. In 1973 that band was reshaped and transformed into Blondie. Two years later, the Blondie was the main figure at CBGB, home of the punk underground scene. The band made its commercial debut in 1976, with the single X Offender, which further spread the renown of Blondie. The single was part of the group’s self-titled debut album. Furthermore, the band’s cover of Randy & the Rainbows’ Denise received critical acclaim in Europe in 1978.

First Success

Later that year, Blondie released the legendary Parallel Lines. The album topped the UK charts and peaked at number 6 on the Billboard 200. Additionally, it spawned two of Blondie’s best-known songs, Heart of Glass and One Way or Another. Rolling Stones included the album in The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. Following up on that success, the group released another number one hit, Call Me, for the American Gigolo Soundtrack. Moreover, their album from 1980, Autoamerican, spawned two massive hits as well, Rapture and the cover of the reggae song The Tide is High.

Second Success & Present

In 1982 the band split up due to some internal problems. It took 16 years for them to reunite but they did it in glory. Their first album after the hiatus, No Exit, generated the beloved single Maria, a chart sensation in several countries and refreshed the band’s fanbase. However, the following three albums did not receive much recognition. In present, Blondie still makes fine efforts and will release their eleventh album. The members revealed collaborations with Johnny Marr, Sia, Charli XCX and Dave Stewart. Additionally, Blondie recently released 3 singles, My Monster, Fun and Long Time.
