Early Formation
The band was formed in 1995 when teenager guitarist Simon Neil met another guitarist, Boyan Chowdury. They then recruited drummer Ben Johnston and his twin brother James Johnston. Career Beginnings
Iname was released as their first official single in 1999, followed by an EP called Thekidswhopoptodaywillrocktomorrow in 2000. Biffy Clyro was soon offered a record deal with the independent label Beggars Banquet. They played many live shows and were the opening act for influencers like Weezer. Their long-awaited first full album, Blackened Sky was released in 2002 preceded by 57, the single. In 2003, their fans were introduced to the more complex LP The Vertigo of Bliss. Biffy Clyro supported the album with a tour and recorded and released Infinity Land in 2004.
Success
Saturday Superhouse was announced as the lead single from their upcoming album, Puzzle. In 2009, the fifth effort was Only Revolutions containing singles like Mountains, Bubbles, and Many of Horror. The next few years they supported Muse and The Foo Fighters on tours and other live performances. The group’s next big ambition, Opposites, balanced prog rock with radio-friendly pop. Powered by the single Black Chandelier, the LP became Biffy Clyro’s first number 1 album in the UK. The band supported the album with a tour for the rest of 2013. After a one year break in 2015, they issued their seventh album Ellipsis, the following year.
