Bee Gees Biography

Bee Gees is one of the most important pop groups of all times. It was formed in 1985 by the three Gibb brothers. The high peak of their musical journey was between the late 1960s and late 1970s. They sold over 220 million records overall. In 1997 they reached the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There are very few artists or bands who sold better than Bee Gees. Their trademark song is Stayin’ Alive, released in 1977.

Early Life, Career & Breakthrough

The three brothers, Barry, Maurice and Robin, were born on The Isle of Man. They were always very close and attended school together. As part of the school choir, they stood out and receive immense acclaim. therefore, in 1958 the family moved to Australia, where the BGs, as they called themselves then, began developing as professional musicians. After that, they changed their name to the final one and moved to England.

In 1967 they already released their first major hit, New York Mining Disaster. Furthermore, they included 2 new members and released their debut album. Moreover, in about one year, the boys topped the singles charts in 15 countries.

Consequent Success

In 1968, Bee Gees released Horizontal, which spawned two very popular singles Massachusetts and World. During that year, Idea also came out, including the single I’ve Gotta Get A Message To You. Despite the undeniable success, the band went through a series of arguments. They settled their issues for good in 1975. Furthermore, they upped their game, going from ballads to a more modern, R&B style. The first international hit that proved their versatility was Jive Talking, which peaked at number one. It was part of the platinum-certified album Main Course.

Most noteworthy, in 1977 the band released the soundtrack album Saturday Night Fever, which spawned some of Bee Gees’ most popular songs, like Stayin Alive’, How Deep Is Your Loce and Night Fever. The album set a record for 24 weeks at the top of the albums charts. Tragically, in 2003 Maurice Gibb passed away and the two remaining members couldn’t continue without him.
