Anathema Biography
Anathema consists of brothers Vincent, Daniel and Jamie Cavanagh, siblings John and Lee Douglas, and Daniel Cardoso. The first version of this band was titled Pagan Angel and it enclosed the brothers Cavanagh, John and vocalist Darren White.
Early Years
Pagan Angel’s debut LP was titled Serenades (1993).It gained visibility and was followed by a European tour and a performance at a festival in Brazil. In 1995, Darren left the band and Vincent Cavanagh became the vocalist.
After Darren leaving, the band would suffer numerous lineup changes. They consolidated their style and sound through albums like Eternity (1996) and Judgement (1999).
Further Career
The start of the 2000s found Anathema releasing the album A Fine Day to Exit. It was followed by A Natural Disaster (2003), We’re Here Because We’re Here (2010) and Weather Systems (2012). They also released a live album called Universal in 2013. It enclosed a performance at the ancient Roman theatre of Philippopolis and featured the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra. Distant Satellites saw the light of day in 2014. A handful of tracks were mixed by the prog legend Steven Wilson. Anathema recorded in Donegal and Glasgow for their upcoming album The Optimist. The release date is set for 9 June 2017.
