Amy Macdonald Biography
Amy Elizabeth Macdonald is a Scottish singer, songwriter, and guitarist, mostly known for hits like “Mr. Rock & Roll” and “This Is the Life“. Her debut album, “This is the Life” topped the charts and went platinum in several countries. Throughout her career, she earned numerous awards and nominations, especially Scottish Music Awards and Echo Awards.
Early Life & Breakthrough
Amy became passionate about music after hearing the band Travis at a festival in 2000. Consequently, she learned to play the guitar by herself, when she was only 12. Then she began composing songs and playing in pubs and coffee houses when she was 15. In 2007, she released her debut album to immense acclaim. It was a major commercial success and it spawned two very well charted singles, “Mr. Rock & Roll” and “This Is the Life”. The latter peaked at number 25 on the US Triple-A chart. Furthermore, she performed at various TV shows, notably The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Recent Years
Following up on that success, Amy released another album, “A Curious Thing”, in 2008. The record also gained platinum certifications and spawned a hit single, “Don’t Tell Me That It’s Over”. However, it failed to reach the glory of its predecessor. Also did the next album, “Life in a Beautiful Light” (2012), which peaked at number 2 in the UK but sold less than the previous 2. In 2017, Amy released her latest album, “Under Stars“, also reaching number 2. It generated two singles, “Dream On” and “Automatic“.
