Alestorm is a Scottish heavy metal band active since 2004. Initially named Battleheart, they released two demos under this moniker and, in 2007, they reinvented themselves as Alestorm. Their music has been categorised as “pirate metal“.
Early Years
The group formed in 2004, as a 6-piece called Battleheart. They recorded a two demos, a self-titled and Terror on the High Seas. They gained popularity with the song Set Sail And Conquer, which featured on the CD Battle Metal V, along with songs from consecrated bands such as Týr, Firewind, HammerFall and Blind Guardian.
Breakthrough & Success
After a few line-up changes the band signed with Napalm Records and became Alestorm. In 2008, they released their debut album Captain Morgan’s Revenge. Furthermore, one year later they released their second album, Black Sails at Midnight. In 2011, Alestorm reached number 24 on the US Heatseekers chart with their third album, Back Through Time. The record gained major acclaim mostly due to the song Shipwrecked and its video, as well as the cover of You Are a Pirate. In 2014, Alestorm once again amazed with the album Sunset on the Golden Age, its track Drink and the cover of Taio Cruz’s Hangover. Most recently, the band released a fifth album, No Grave But the Sea, in May 2017, preceded by the single Mexico.
