Aerosmith Biography

Aerosmith is a Grammy-awarded rock band, referred to several times as “America’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band“. Their music, blues-based hard rock, contains various elements from other genres. They became commercially successful in 1972. Aerosmith is the best-selling American hard rock band of all time, with over 150 million records sold.

First Success

After a few years of playing small gigs, Aerosmith signed with Columbia Records and began their success streak with a self-titled album. However, their real breakthrough was in 1975, due to the release of Toys in the Attic. One year later, Rocks cemented their rockstars status. During the 70s, the band released a dozen Billboard Hot 100 singles. Furthermore, they formed a massive fan base, nicknamed the Blue Army. However, after the massive success came a dark period, as the lead singer, Steven Tyler, began using drugs. Their success decayed a little with the 1984 release of Rock in a Hard Place.

Comeback

After a devastating hiatus, Aerosmith rejoined and released the 1985 album, Done with Mirrors. It failed to make an impression and the band only regained popularity three years later. Therefore, in the late 80s and 90s, the band released numerous platinum-certified albums, such as Pump (1989), Get a Grip (1993), and Nine Lives (1997).

Additionally, they toured almost ceaselessly and made several appearances in the television and gaming industries. In 2001 they reached both Rolling Stone and VHI‘s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time lists. Moreso, Aerosmith was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Currently, the band is preparing for a massive farewell tour around Europe.
