Seether Biography

Seether is an alternative rock band formed in 1999. The band gained instant popularity in 2002 with the top single in US Active Rock, Fine Again. Another wave of fame came with 2004 single Broken, a collaboration with Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee. The song was featured on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Since then, Seether had constant scaling success with numerous songs among the rock music communities. Their main inspirations are grunge groups Nirvana and Alice in Chains. Seether’s latest album, Poison the Parish, is set for release later his year and has already been pre-ordered massively.

Ascending the Rock Music Ladder

The band was started off under the name Saron Gas and, in the early days, mostly played small gigs in hometown Johannesburg. They changed their name due to sarin gas being a deadly chemical agent related to WW2. They launched their first official album, Disclaimer, as Seether and toured ceaselessly.The association with Evanescence for Disclaimer II simply doubled their stardom. More so, Amy Lee and Shaun Morgan had a fling during their touring together. Two songs were featured on the soundtrack of The Punisher (2004).

Another name change occurred in 2005, this time regarding their album Karma and Effect, initially called Catering to Cowards. The album jumped straight to the top of the US Billboard 200 chart and was certified gold. Seether released three singles, among which Remedy is Morgan’s personal favorite tracks. Additionally, it gained the top place on the US Mainstream Rock Charts. The band proceeded with releasing an acoustic album One Cold Night, due to Morgan’s health problems.

Conquering the Rock Music World

2007 came with a more complex sound for Seether. The album Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces instantly reached number 9 on the Billboard 200 album charts. The cover contains illustrator David Ho‘s Candice the Ghost. The album brought Seether their first MTV African Music Award. On their supporting tour, the band collaborated with many consecrated bands like Three Days Grace, Finger Eleven, Breaking Benjamin, 3 Doors Down etc. In 2009, Seether’s hard rock cover of the 80s pop song Careless Whisper, which gained more popularity than they had expected.

One year later, they released the album Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray and described it as “very strong, melodic, and heavy at times”. Eventually, the album reached second place on the US Billboard 200 Charts. Moreover, Billboard named Seether the No. 1 Active and No. 1 Heritage Rock Artist of 2011. During that period, Seether performed at the Uproar Festival, a hard rock and heavy metal annual event. In 2013 they released a greatest hits and unreleased demos compilation.

After a great deal of promotion via all social channels, the band released their 6th studio album. They performed the lead single Words as Weapons for the first time at the Orbit Room, in front of almost 2000 fans. In the summer of 2015, Seether released an interactive set of music videos for the single Nobody Praying for Me. Their goal was to educate people on social issues.
