Timothy Lee McKenzie, known by the stage name Labrinth, is a British rapper, songwriter, producer, and instrumentalist. He gained some recognition in 2010 for collaborating withTinie Tempah for his massive hit Pass Out. In 2012, his single Earthquake, featuring Tinie Tempah gained huge appreciation. Shortly after, he released his first number-one single, Beneath Your Beautiful, featuring Emeli Sandé.
Early Career
Labrinth was born in London, into a music-oriented family. He developed an interest in music when he was little and started to compose at the age of 15, in his brother’s studio. In 2010, the young rapper produced and co-wrote Tinie’s single Pass Out. The song topped the UK Singles chart. He also collaborated with the earlier mentioned rapper for his second single, Frisky. Consequently, McKenzie continued to produce and write tracks for various artists and received a publishing deal. In 2010, the uprising rapper signed with Syco, Simon Cowell‘s label. Furthermore, he released his debut single, Let the Sun Shine, which reached number tree in the UK. In 2011, Labrinth participated in recording a charity single, a cover of Massive Attack’s Teardrop.
Commercial Success
Labrinth’s first high-selling song was Earthquake, featuring Tinie Tempah. Not only did it reach several international charts, it was also certified Platinum. Following that success, the rapper announced his debut album, Electronic Earth. In 2012, he released a third single, Last Time, and finally, his debut album. The album spawned several chart-topping hits. Most noteworthy is Beneath Your Beautiful, which features Emeli Sandé. In 2013, the British rapper began working on his second album, Take Me to the Truth. In the meantime, he released the first two singles Let It Be and Jealous, both in 2014.
