Career Beginnings
Anne-Marie Nicholson was born in Somerset on 7 April 1991. She is part Irish through her father side, while her mother was born in Essex. As a child, she appeared in two West End musical productions Les Misérables and Whistle Down the Wind, the last also featuring a young Jessie J. This will pave the way to her musical career. In addition, Nicholson has practiced Shotokan since she was nine, earning multiple awards. She credits this form of martial arts with teaching her discipline and focus, two essential traits of becoming a successful musician.
“Rockabye” and Future Album
Wth the help of Elton John’s Rocket Studios, Anne-Marie released a demo called “Summer Girl”, which drew some attention to the singer. Despite her solo career’s potential, she put everything on hold in order to develop herself as an artist. In the meantime, she was featured on tracks by Magnetic Man, Gorgon City and Raized by Wolves, catching the attention of drum and bass band Rudimental. She was asked to replace one of their vocalist, who just left. She featured on four tracks on their album “We the Generation” (2015)”. One of the four tracks, “Rumour Mill”, reached number 67 on the UK Singles Chart. Anne-Marie spent two years touring alongside them and through their label Major Tom’s she released her debut EP, “Karate” (2015). Two singles were released from it, “Karate” and “Gemini”, resulting in the first steps towards her solo career. In early 2016, she released the first single off her new upcoming album “Breathing Fire”, titled “Do It Right”, which peaked at number 90 on the UK Singles Chart. With the release of hit single “Alarm” in late 2016, Anne-Marie secured her place in the European charts, reaching top positions in multiple countries. She made her US debut with Clean Bandit’s release “Rockabye”, on which she features alongside Sean Paul. The song reached no. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2017 she released the single “Ciao Adios”.
