Kendrick Lamar Biography

Kendrick Lamar is a critically acclaimed rapper that is best known for singles like “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe” and “Swimming Pool (Drank)”.

Early Life

Born Kendrick Lamar Duckworth on June 17, 1987, he was keen on writing poems and stories from an early age. He issued a mixtape in 2003 called Youngest Head Nigga in Charge, using the name K-Dot. This mixtape got him signed to the record label Top Dawg Entertainment, that helped him release two more: Training Day (2005) and C4 (2009).

Becoming a Legend

The rapper dropped the name K-Dot and started using his own name. He issued his independent album Section.80 that could be found only on iTunes. Soon after, the producer legend Dr Dre started helping the young rapper. What Dr Dre touches turns to gold. So did happen to Kendrick. He signed to Aftermath Entertainment, next to rappers like Eminem and 50 Cent.

His first major debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city was a major success and Lamar got to be on everybody’s lips. His next album To Pimp a Butterfly won him a Grammy for Best Rap Album. “This album was therapy for me. I was looking at myself in the mirror and trying to figure out who I really am“, he declared for The Guardian.

He performed two of the album’s singles, ‘i” and “Pay for It” on Saturday Night Live. In the spring of 2016, Kendrick released an album called untitled unmastered, encapsulating unfinished demos.

Achievements

Kendrick Lamar won 7 Grammy Awards, 14 Bet Hip Hop Awards and numerous others. He was also nominated for awards over 100 times. One of the freshest names in rap, he collaborated with artists like Snoop Dogg, Pharrell Williams, and Bilal.
