Kygo Biography
Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll, known by the stage name Kygo, is a Norwegian DJ, songwriter, and producer. He became internationally known after releasing a remix of Ed Sheeran’s I See Fire (from The Hobbit soundtrack). In 2016 he released his first studio album, Cloud Nine. Additionally, he performed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, being the first house music producer to do so.
Early Career & Breakthrough
Kygo learned to play the piano when he was only six. Ten years later, he renounced the piano in favor of a MIDI keyboard. He was actually studying business and finance at a highly acclaimed Scottish university. Kygo’s actual career began in 2014. He signed with Sony International and Ultra Music and released his first single. Firestone was an unexpectedly huge success and reached numerous charts. Additionally, it was viewed over 80 million times on Youtube and Soundcloud. This caught the eye of both Avicii and lead singer of Coldplay, with whom he later collaborated.
Cloud Nine & Other Endeavours
In 2015, Kygo released the popular hit ID. Not only was it included in the official trailer for Ultra Music Festival, it also made it into the FIFA 16. Additionally, during that period, Kygo performed as a headliner at the notorious festival Lollapalooza. Over the course of the next few months, Kygo released 4 more singles, all which gained immense local recognition. Furthermore, he went on a promotional tour and released a teaser for his upcoming album.
In the spring of 2016, he released a first promotional single, titled Fragile, a collaboration with Labrinth. He the proceeded with releasing Raging, featuring Kodaline and, finally, I’m In Love. The album was soon released and featured vocals by many trending artists. Moreover, the DJ creating his own clothing label, Kygo Life. 2017 came with a collaboration with pop idol Selena Gomez. The single It Ain’t Me anticipates the release of Kygo’s second album. The single reached Billboard Hot 100 and received extremely positive reviews.
