MNEK Biography
MNEK, born Uzoechi “Uzo” Emenike is a singer, songwriter, and producer from the UK. In 2016 he won the ASCAP Vanguard Award for his contribution to songwriting and producing. He worked with extremely influential personalities like Beyoncé, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Diplo, Zara Larsson, Bastille & Clean Bandit.
Early Career
MNEK began his career through collaborations with bigger artists. His first relevant apparition was on Syron‘s single Spoons, from their debut album. In 2003, he reached BBC’s Sound Of 2014 list. 2014 came with the artist’s actual breakthrough, due to being featured on Gorgon City‘s single Ready for Your Love. The song ranked number 4 on the UK Singles Chart. After that, he released a popular single, Every Little Word, in order to promote his upcoming album. Additionally, he released a remix EP, featuring Joe Goddard and Fred V & Grafix. The lead single, Wrote a Song About You, eventually premiered on BBC’s radio station. He also wrote a song for the Dutch DJ Oliver Heldens, which jumped straight to the top of both the UK Dance Chart and the UK Singles Chart.
Small Talk
Furthermore, he also worked with Madonna on her album, Rebel Heart, and with Kylie Minogue on her song Feels So Good. In 2015, MNEK released the In Your Clouds as part of an iTunes campaign. MNEK released his debut EP Small Talk in the spring of 2015. During that period he also collaborated with JoJo on her new studio album. He the proceeded with releasing the quickly trending Never Forget You with Zara Larsson, also premiering it on BBC Radio 1. The single received multiple Platinum certifications and created immense hype. Moreover, it topped the Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs chart for three consecutive weeks.
