Destiny’s Child Beginning and Success

They were eventually signed to Columbia Records in 1997 and soon were one of the most successful R&B bands. After two albums their number 1s included “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Say My Name”. “Say My Name” was their most recognized song and got the girls 2 Grammys. In 2004, after a solo career debut, Beyoncé joined forces again with her two remaining members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams with the last album “Destiny Fulfilled”.

Solo Career and Pop Icon Status

In 2003 she released her first album, “Dangerously in Love” becoming one of her best albums both commercially and critically. The album has sold 11 million copies and got Beyoncé her first Grammys as a solo artist, with 5 wins. “B’Day” was the second album released 2006 debuting at the top of the US charts. What truly solidified her as the ultimate performer and pop singer was the 2008 album “I Am…Sasha Fierce”, its subsequent tour and the promotional performances. The introduction to Sasha Fierce as her alter ego allowed Beyoncé to be who she wanted on stage. The album generated many hits such as the iconic “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)”, “If I Were a Boy” and “Halo” and many awards including 6 Grammy wins, in consequence breaking her own 2004 record. Soon followed her critically acclaimed tour “I Am…World Tour” with fashion, dance numbers, and performances that solidified her as one of the best entertainers, many claiming she embodied the female version of pop legend Michael Jackson. After a one-year break from the spotlight, she parted ways with her manager, also her father. Knowles then released her fourth album “4” in 2011 which with no surprise reached the top charts. Later that year, she and her long-time partner Jay-Z had their first child, Blue Ivy.

The Super Bowl Halftime and Lemonade

Beyoncé headlined and amazed everyone with the Super Bowl XLVII halftime show, the performance being the second most tweeted about event in history. Knowles became more protective of her private life, focusing more on her family and her art, and less on interviews and public appearances. As a result, her self-titled album was released with no announcement or promotion in 2013 and left fans around the world shocked. The electro-R&B album contained darker themes that were new in her music such as fear of motherhood, marriage and body image. Beyoncé added 3 more awards to her Grammy collection. Following a very successful tour with her husband, she released her critically acclaimed visual album “Lemonade”, considered her best work to date. The album was praised for its honest portrayal of infidelity and forgiveness. The number 1 album made her the only artist to have all first six studio albums peak at the top of Billboard’s album charts.
