Chromatics Biography

Chromatics is an American electronic music band formed in 2001. The lineup consists of the lead Ruth Radelet (vocals, guitar, synthesiser), Adam Miller (guitar, bass, vocoder), Nat Walker (drums, synthesiser), and Johnny Jewel (producer, multi-instrumentalist). They are known for featuring in numerous TV series such as Gossip Girl, Bates Motel, Mr. Robot and Twin Peaks.

Early Years 

Chromatics started off as a solo project by Adam Miller. He released 2001’s single “Beach of Infants/Steps”. In 2003 he completed the lineup and moved to vocalist, furthermore released the debut album “Chrome Rats vs Basement Rutz”. One year and some lineup changes later, the group released another album, titled “Plaster Hounds”. After that, the group reached its current lineup and changed its style to electropunk-Italo disco.

Breakthrough

In 2007, Chromatics’ third album, Night Drive, came out on Italians Do It Better. It became their most praised release and featured a popular cover of “Running Up That Hill”. Additionally, “Tick of the Clock” gained over 10 million views on Youtube after being featured in the movie Drive. Pitchfork commented that “the transformation of Chromatics has been so effortless that it’s still easy to be wowed by the results”.

Success

Next up, Chromatics released their latest album, 2012’s “Kill for Love”. It reached several top albums of 2012 lists. The homonymous lead single was called a “really hypnotising, fascinating song that will definitely get you psyched for the record”, and the album a “time warp … a warm collision of past, present, and future.” In 2014, the group released 3 singles, Just Like You”, “I Can Never Be Myself When You’re Around”, and “In Films”. In 2015, their single “Yes” was included as the Love Theme in Ryan Gosling’s Lost River. Furthermore, the single “Shadow” came out, which was ulteriorly used in season 3 of Twin Peaks.
