Dua Lipa Biography

Best known for her singles “New Love” and “Be The One”, Dua Lipa began her musical career at age 14. She gained popularity by covering songs by artists such as Nelly Furtado and Christina Aguilera on YouTube.

Early Life

Dua Lipa was born in London on 22 August 1995. Her parents are ethnic Albanians from Kosovo who left Prishtina in the 1990s. While in London, Lipa attended Sylvia Young Theatre School part-time. She moved to Kosovo with her family when she was 13. Following her dream of becoming a singer, Lipa moved back to London at the age of 16.

Debut Album

Lipa began working on her debut album for Warner Bros. Records in 2015. Her first single “New Love” was released in August 2015 and it was produced by Emile Haynie and Andrew Wyatt. “Be The One”, her second single, was a huge hit all across Europe, reaching number one in Belgium, Slovakia and Poland. Lipa said that that “Be the One is the only song on my album I haven’t written … I couldn’t not take it, it’s my favourite thing”. She describes her musical style as “dark pop”. On 18 February 2016, Dua Lipa released her next single, “Last Dance”, followed by “Hotter than Hell” on 6 May. Her fifth single, “Blow Your Mind (Mwah)” was released on 26 August and it soon became Lipa’s first entry on the US Billboard Hot 100. Dua Lipa’s debut studio album is set to come out on 2 June 2017.
