Taylor Swift was born and raised in Reading, Pennsylvania. She spent her childhood on a Christmas tree farm, which Taylor described as one of the most magical and amazing ways to grow up. The accomplished singer began her musical career at age 14 when she moved to Nashville, Tennessee.
Early Life
Taylor Swift was born on December 13, 1989, in Reading, Pennsylvania. Her mother, Andrea Gardner Swift, was a homemaker and her father, Scott Kingsley Scott, worked as a financial advisor.
Growing up, Swift’s first love was horse riding. She was only 9 months when her mother first put her in a saddle. As a child, Taylor competed in several horse riding events. Although she enjoyed horse riding, she soon discovered her passion for music.
Career Beginnings
By the age of 10, Taylor was singing at various local events. When she was 11 years old she sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a Philadelphia 76ers game. Taylor began learning guitar and writing her own songs at the age of 12.
In order to pursue her music career, Taylor and her family relocated to Hendersonville, Tennesse. She often visited Nashville where she co-wrote songs and tried to land a record deal.
Major Success
Swift became the youngest artist ever signed by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house when she signed with Big Machine Records, an independent American record label. Her debut album, “Taylor Swift”, was released in 2006 and reached number five on Billboard 200.
“Fearless”, Swift’s second album, was released in 2008. Including the singles “You Belong with Me” and “Love Story”, the album became the best-selling album of 2009 in the United States. Taylor was the sole writer of her fourth album, “Speak Now”. It topped the charts in the United States and the single “Mean” received two Grammy Awards.
Her fourth album, “Red”, featured the successful singles “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and “I Knew You Were Trouble”. Taylor released her fifth album, “1989”, on October 27, 2014. She soon became the first act to have three albums that sold a million copies within one week in the United States.
