Formation

Sum 41 was formed initially as Kaspir, by vocalist Deryck Whibley and drummer Steve Jocz. After completing the line-up with Dave Baksh as guitarist and Jason McCaslin as bassist, they changed the name to the current one. They were inspired by the fact that their very first show landed on the 41st day of summer. In 1998 they created a demo tape and, two years later, they released their first EP, Half Hour of Power. It went gold and, additionally, it spawned the acclaimed single “Makes No Difference”.

The album received positive reviews and was a commercial success, additionally spawning 2 noteworthy singles, “We’re All to Blame” and “Pieces”.
