A$AP Mob is an American hip hop collective from Harlem, consisting of multiple rappers, producers, fashion designers and music video directors. These days, its members are A$AP Ant, A$AP Bari, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Illz, A$AP Lotto, A$AP Lou Banga, A$AP Nast, A$AP P on the Boards, A$AP Rocky, A$AP Snacks, A$AP Twelvyy, A$AP Ty Beats, and A$AP TyY.
Early Years & Breakthrough
The group formed in 2006, when A$AP Yams met with A$AP Bari, A$AP Kham and A$AP Illz. The Harlem-based rapper A$AP Rocky also joined and, by 2011, the group released a couple of viral singles on Youtube. “Peso” and “Purple Swag” made the hip-hop collective extremely popular. Subsequently, they signed with Sony Music Entertainment. In the summer of 2012, A$AP Mob released their debut mixtape, “Lords Never Worry”. The record spawned the hit single “Trillmatic”, which reached number 29 on the UK R&B Chart. During that period, A$AP Rocky promoted his upcoming solo debut, “Long. Live. A$AP”.
“Cozy Tapes”
In early 2015, A$AP Yams died, supposedly due to an overdose. However, the other members and friends declared it was due to sleep apnea. In 2016, the group finally released their first studio album, “Cozy Tapes Vol. 1: Friends”. It featured vocals from a new member, Playboi Carti, as well as consecrated rappers such as Skepta and Tyler, The Creator. The record peaked at number 13 on the Billboard 200 and number 4 on both the R&B/Hip-Hop and Rap charts. Additionally, it spawned 4 singles, notably “Yamborghini High”, with Juicy J. In 2017, they came out with the single “Wrong“.
