Yellowcard is a Florida-based pop punk band who were set apart from their competition thanks to the addition of violins.
Early Formation
The band got its start in 1997 and their original line-up was done in 2000. Yellowcard was formed with Ryan Key as the main vocalist/guitarist, Sean Mackin the vocalist/violinist, Ben Harper the 2nd guitarist, Longineu Parsons the drummer, and Warren Cooke the bassist.
Career Beginnings
The following year they released the album One for the Kids and then the EP Underdog. In 2003, Cooke was replaced with Pete Mosely and the group was signed to Capitol Records. Yellowcard then issued Ocean Avenue and they hit the road on a tour to support it. Alex Lewis replaced Mosely before starting the tour.
Success
Ocean Avenue proved to be a success as it was certified platinum in 2004. Mosley came back and Lewis was kicked out the group. Where We Stand, a 1999 album was re-released in 2005, followed by the 2006 Lights and Sounds. The latter debuted on Billboard 200 at number 5 and at number 1 on the Alternative Album chart. Guitarist Harper left the group and was replaced by Ryan Mendez. Yellowcard’s 5th album, Paper Walls was issued in 2007. The next year, they left Capitol Records and took an indefinite hiatus.
Comeback and Disbandment
In 2011, after a long break, the band was back. After being signed to Hopeless Records, the members revealed the 2011 LP When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes and Southern Air the following year. In 2013 they headed for a tour for the 10th anniversary of Ocean Avenue. The 9th project Lift a Sail was issued in 2014. Two years later Yellowcard revealed their latest self-titled LP. They supported the LP with the 2016 Vans Warped Tour, which was announced would be their last show after final disbandment. Yellowcard closed the tour on March 25, 2017, and released their last music video for A Place We Set Afire on April 12, 2017.
