Lena Johanna Therese Meyer-Landrut is a German singer and songwriter. She rose to international fame by winning 2010’s Eurovision, with the hit song Satellite. Additionally, the song reached number 30 in the UK. Lana released four studio albums, peaking at number 1 and 2 in Germany.
Early Life & Breakthrough
Lena was born in 1991, in Hanover Germany. At the age of five, she picked up dancing, taking ballet, modern dance, hip-hop and dance lessons. Moreover, she developed a passion for singing and made uncredited appearances on local TV. Eventually, Lena challenged herself by participating in the talent show Unser Star für Oslo (Our Star for Oslo), which chose Germany’s candidate for Eurovision. She performed both covers and original compositions and won easily. All three of her songs, Bee, Satellite and Love Me gained massive success locally.
Eurovision & Music Career
The 2x platinum-certified Satellite topped the singles charts in numerous countries. During the Eurovision, Lena received enormous attention from the press. Germany won with 246 points, marking their first win since 1982. Lena’s debut studio album, My Cassette Player went double platinum in Germany and, overall, gained immense praise in Europe. It included the singer’s breakthrough single and a new one, Touch a New Day. One year later, Lena released her second album, Good News, which also topped the German chart, consequently reaching platinum. While the next two albums Stardust (2012) and Crystal Sky (2015) failed to reach the same success, they generated two gold-certified singles, Stardust, respectively, Wild & Free.
