New Kids on the Block Biography

New Kids on the Block currently encloses members Jonathan Knight, Jordan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood. Former member Mark Wahlberg quit before they even started recording.

First Phase

The group was put together by Maurice Starr and Mary Alford. The first recruited member was Donnie Wahlberg. Their self-titled debut album issued in 1986. It would classify as a failure.

Fighting with their lack of success, New Kids on the Block released the single “Please Don’t Go Girl.” It went viral after a Florida radio station started playing them, growing more and more, until it reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. The single was included on their second album titled Hangin’ Tough (1988). New Kids on the Block continued to climb the charts with their next album Step by Step (1990). They were one of the biggest groups in that period, with a numerous fan base. After lyp-syncing accusations and issues with Maurice Starr, the band released Face the Music (1994). The album was considerably less successful than the last ones. The first to leave the band was Jonathan Knight. Soon enough, the rest followed his example.

Reunion

There were failed initiatives for the band to reunite, but the official confirmation of this event came in 2008. New Kids on the Block came back with a roar, releasing the album The Block. They toured with Backstreet Boys in the period 2011-2012. In 2013 they released the album 10, that debuted at number 6 on the Billboard 200.
