Texas Biography

Texas is a Scottish pop rock and alternative rock band formed in 1986. They took their name from Wim Wenders’ 1984 drama film, “Paris, Texas“. They rose to stardom with 1989’s I Don’t Want a Lover and 1997’s Say What You Want. The group sold 40 million records to date and has dominated the British charts. Texas’ latest album, Jump on Board, came out in April 2017.

Southside 

The band’s first album came out three years after their formation. The 1989 album Southside received critical acclaim and spawned the iconic debut single, I Don’t Want a Lover. The song peaked at number 3 in the UK and number 77 in the US. While the next singles didn’t make such an impact, the album was overall very popular in Europe. The albums big breakthrough record was followed but two mildly successful ones, Mothers Heaven (1991) and Ricks Road (1993).

White on Blonde, The Hush 

In 1997, Texas gained, even more, fame due to the iconic single Say What You Want, which peaked at number 3 in the UK, preceding the 6x platinum-certified album White on Blonde. The album topped the UK albums Chart and spawned 4 more singles. Additionally, it made it into Q’s “Best 50 Albums of Q’s Lifetime”. Moreover, the 1999 album, The Hush, reached number 1 as well and spawned another immense hit, Summer Son. The next three albums, Careful What You Wish For (2003), Red Book (2005) andThe Conversation (2013) failed to reach that success but charted and sold well.
