1Rail Biography

1Rail is a rapper, singer, songwriter and producer/director from Uganda. He performs hip-hop and R&B, but he likes to experiment constantly, having approached dancehall and zouk already.

Life & Inspirations

1Rail was born in Jinja, Uganda, East Africa. He became interested in music when he was six, as he enjoyed breakdancing and singing. After getting accustomed to various genres, he started to write his own songs, at the age of thirteen.

1Rail has cited Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, Diggy and Wiz Kalifa as his inspirations. “I get motivated by people who are doing good music, working hard and being successful at it” he explained. Moreover, the rapper declared that the main point of his music is to make people feel good, about themselves and in general.

Music Career

1Rail decided to pursue music professionally in 2010, while he was still studying in college. He managed to juggle music and education by only releasing a few mixtapes during that period. Moreover, the local radio stations supported him completely and broadcasted him fairly often. Sometimes, he was even included in countdowns. His commercial breakthrough came in 2013, with the songs In Another Wolrd and Limelight, which expanded his popularity internationally, and made him a true star in Uganda. He won a few awards and spawned a few top-charting videos as well. 1Rail released several albums and EP, most noteworthy Limelight and  East African Boy American Dream and Livin’ My Life. Most recently he came out with Celebrity Life, in late 2016.
