Bonobo Biography

Born Simon Green on 30 March 1976 in Brighton, England, Bonobo is one truly talented musician. He self-produced his first album Animal Magic.

Early Years

After the success of Animal Magic, Simon signed with Ninja Tune. He released the albums Dial ‘M’ for Monkey (2002) and Days to Come (2006). Experimenting continuously with his sounds, he made a name for himself in the electronic scene. The fourth album Black Sands (2010) received a rating of 4/5 stars from The Times. Several instruments were used for the creation of Black Sands, including harp, violins, saxophone and mandolin.

Further Releases

The North Borders charted greatly in 2012. It reached number 4 on the UK Dance Albums Chart while peaking at the number 29 on the UK Albums chart. Bonobo announced his next album with the single “Kerala” and a music video attached to it. Migration issued on 13 January 2017. Simon collaborated with Nick Murphy, Rhye, Innov Gnawa and Hundred Waters for this one.

It’s sort of montage, what I do it’s taking bits of sound and re-contextualising it and putting things together from two different places and seeing how they fit together. So you end up with this patchwork of stuff that I’ve recorded,” Simon Green declared for the Independent.
