Dan + Shay Biography

Dan + Shay encloses members Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney. Both with music background, they met in Nashville in 2012. They realised their chemistry after writing a song for Rascal Flatts.

Newfound Success

The country duo debuted with the single “19 You + Me”. It was well received and so the album Where It All Began (2014) followed. Danny Orton with Scott Hendricks produced it. The thirds single of the album, “Nothin’ Like You” peaked at number one on the Country Airplay. They won an ASCAP Country Music Award for “19 You + Me”.

Dan + Shay opened for Hunter Hayes and Black Shelton. They ended 2014 with their own national tour. After finalisation, they toured with Hunter Hayes once again. Smyers and Mooney issued their second album called Obsessed (2016). It ranked number one on the UK Country Albums and number 8 on the US Billboard 200.

Personal View

“Yeah that’s the beauty of songwriting really – it’s different every time. You get in a room with different people, like Shay & I will meet up in a room with one of our friends and it usually starts with a title or an idea,” Dan declared for Nashville Over Here. “It’s very different every time but we love doing it and songwriting is still one of our favourite things to do.”
