Cheat Codes is an American electronic music DJing group formed in LA, California. The trio is best known for their 2016 hit Sex, which samples Salt-N-Pepa’s iconic Let’s Talk About Sex.
Formation
Cheat Codes consists of Trevor Dahl, Kevin Ford, and Matthew Russell. Trevor was already recording music before the band’s formation. Moreover, he used to be Mathew’s roommate. The name of the band was inspired by Kevin’s brother who once said he had found the “cheat code” to getting anything he wanted in life. Therefore, the group focussed on the idea that anything is possible. They also revealed that, for them, that “cheat code” meant loving what you do.
Music Career
In 2015, they released their first single, Visions, which topped the Hype Machine chart. Furthermore, their fourth single, Adventure, peaked at number 3. Cheat Codes gain over 15 million views on Youtube. Later that year they toured with The Chainsmokers. In the summer of 2016, their next single came out, titled Let Me Hold You. It earned over 100 million streams. One month later, they released their most popular single, Sex, with over 300 million streams. Additionally, the song received a music video and the trio performed at the Billboard Hot 100 festival. Recently they collaborated with Demi Lovato on the single, No Promise, premiered in March 2017.
