Early Life
Cher Lloyd was born and raised in Malvern, Worcestershire on 28 July 1993. Originally of Romani descent, she studied at arts-focused schools as a child.
The X Factor
Before being accepted into The X Factor, Cher auditioned before but was not accepted. She was however given another chance the second time Lloyd auditioned. During the show, she performed a variety of songs from Coldplay to Jay Z and Avril Lavigne. Although she was expected to win the series, Cher finished 4th place.
Career Beginnings
Right after the show was finished, Lloyd was signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco label and proceeded to create an album. Swagger Jagger the lead single introduced the debut album Sticks + Stones, released in 2011.
Success
The LP produced hits like With Ur Love and Want U Back, which garnered good sales for the album. It reached the Top Five in England and the Top Ten in the US. She then changed labels with Epic Records and released the single I Wish in 2013. This song served as a taste of her second album Sorry I’m Late. It reached number 12 on Billboard’s Top 200 and number 21 in England. In 2015, however, Cher parted ways with her label and decided to move to LA where she would focus on writing and her independence as an artist. Universal took her in and in 2016 she announced a new album arrival with the reveal of the single Activated.
