Three Days Grace Biography
Three Days Grace is an alternative rock band formed in Ontario, in 1997, by the lead singer and guitarist Adam Gontier. They released five studio albums, each at three-year intervals. Their singles topped the Alternative and Mainstream Rock charts numerous times. Their latest release is a cover of Phantogram’s You Don’t Get me High Anymore, which came out in late 2016.
Self-titled Album & One-X
Three Days Grace’s name refers to an urgent situation where someone had 3 days to change something in their life. In 1997, the newly-formed band met with producer Gavin Brown and recorded a demo album, which caught the interest of EMI Music Publishing.
Consequently, the boys created I Hate Everything About You. Following on the positive reaction, they began recording a debut album. The eponymous album (2003) received massive acclaim and eventually, 2 platinum certifications. In 2006, the band released their second album, One-X, which peaked at number 5 in the US. It sold even better than its predecessor and spawned 3 number 1 hits: Animal I have Become, Pain and Never Too Late. The dramatic nature of the songs suggested Gontier’s battle with drugs. “The lyrics really speak out to you, especially if you’re going through a tough time in your life.” declared Toronto Star magazine.
Life Starts Now to Present
In 2009, Three Days Grace released their next album, Lift Starts Now. It marked a change in style, to a more optimistic and mature tone. It debuted at the third spot on the Billboard 200 and generated 5 singles, most noteworthy the extremely successful Break. Additionally, the record received a Best Rock Album Juno nomination.
After three more years, Transit of Venus came out. The release was promoted with a slogan: “Some things will never happen again in your lifetime.” The record spawned 4 singles: Chalk Outline, The High Road, Misery Loves My Company and a cover of Michael Jackson’s Give In to Me. In 2013, Gontier suddenly left the band and Matt Walst (My Darkest Days) took his place. In this new formula, the band released its fifth album, Human.
