Thomas Rhett Biography

Georgia-born Thomas Rhett is an American country music singer and songwriter and son of award-winning country artist Rhett Akins.

Early Life

Thomas Rhett Akins, Jr. was born on March 30, 1990, in Nashville, Tennessee. He grew up surrounded by country music, because of his famous father. Tom would go to college but would soon drop out at 20 to pursue a career in music.

Career Beginnings

While performing in a club, Rhett was approached by an executive from Big Machine Label Group and asked if he wanted a songwriting job. He wrote I Ain’t Ready to Quit for fellow country-rock musician Jason Aldean for his 2010 album My Kind of Party. Aspiring for a similar identity in music as that of Aldean, Brantley Gilbert, and Justin Moore’s he released his own debut single in 2011 called Something to Do with My Hands. Two years later, he revealed a self-titled EP followed by a full-length debut with It Goes Like This.

Success

The project reached number 6 on Billboard 200 thanks to singles like It Goes Like This, Get Me Some of That, and Make Me Wanna. All singles topped the Country Airplay Billboard chart. In 2015, Rhett introduced the second record called Tangled Up which spawned the number 1 Billboard hit Crash and Burn. Other great singles like Die a Happy Man and T-Shirt turned Tangled Up into a huge success. In March of this year, Thomas revealed the lead single Craving You from his 3rd upcoming album. The song featured vocals from Grammy-winner Maren Morris. At the 52nd Academy Of Country Music Awards, he won awards for Male Vocalist of the Year and Song of the Year.
