Early Life
Daniel Dewan Sewell was born on March 16, 1981, in Detroit, Michigan to teenage parents. Growing up, he was always exposed to music as his father was a DJ and would expose Daniel to the music of LL Cool J and A Tribe Called Quest.
Career
He began his career in the mid-2000s as a member of Reser’vor Dogs. They managed to get the attention of Roc-A-Fella label but they were not signed. Brown was assisted by an A&R representative of the company and was able to record and release a mixtape called Detroit State of Mind. Danny was included and worked with artists like Tony Yayo with whom he released the track, Hawaiian Snow. In 2010 Danny also released the mixtape The Hybrid and other mixtapes from the Detroit State of Mind series.
Independent Success
Fool’s Gold Records signed Brown and he issued the debut album XXX. After some delay, his second album was issued in late 2013 as Old. The project had guest appearances from A$AP Rocky and ScHoolboy Q. In 2016 he signed to Warp Records and released the singleWhen It Rain. Atrocity Exhibition was his fourth studio album revealed the same year. The album was considered for Album of the Year Award by The Independent Music Companies Association.
