Fleetwood Mac are a British-American rock band formed in London.
Fleetwood Mac Biography
Fleetwood Mac is currently enclosing members Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. The band changed the lineup constantly and the only original member that remains is drummer Mick Fleetwood.
Early Years
The band has its name after guitarist and founder Peter Green chose to combine the drummer’s name, Fleetwood, with the bassist’s, McVie. McVie was reluctant at first and didn’t enter the new band from the start.
Fleetwood Mac released their debut self-entitled album in 1968. The no-singles record hit number four in the UK. They continued to work on their sound and kept adding members. Transitioning from blues to a more rock-oriented sound, the band also met with personal issues. Peter Green quit the band, the married McVie couple started experiencing issues and a fake Fleetwood Mac band appeared.
Changes
The band achieved tremendous success with the 1975 album Fleetwood Mac. This album spawned singles like “Rhiannon” and “Over My Head”. Two years later the British band won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year with Rumours. Rumours generated the wonder hits “Go Your Own Way” and “Dreams”.
Following albums like Tusk (1979) and Tango in the Night (1987), the group consolidated their fame. In 1995 they released Time. It was an unsuccessful release and Fleetwood Mac disbanded.
Keeping It Together
After reuniting in 1997, the band started to perform again. In 1998 the original band together with the Rumours composition were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Fleetwood Mac already planned a Farewell Tour that will take place in 2018.
