Kisean Anderson, known by his stage name Sean Kingston, is a Jamaican-American singer, songwriter, rapper and record producer. He made his commercial debut in 2007, with the singles Beautiful Girls and Me Love.
Early Career & Debut Album
Sean Kingston was born in Florida, but he moved to Jamaica when he was still little. His grandfather was also in the music industry, a reggae producer. Sean was discovered on Myspace and signed to Sony. He got his “Kingston” name from the capital of Jamaica. In the spring of 2007, he released Beautiful Girls, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 and numerous European charts. His debut eponymous album reached number 6 on the Billboard 200. Additionally, he performed openings acts for Gwen Stefani and Beyonce. In 2008 he also toured with Kelly Clarkson.
Tomorrow, King of Kingz & Back 2 Life
In 2009, the singer released his next album, Tomorrow. The album presented a different sound, electropop-influenced. The album failed to reach the success of its predecessor, only making it to number 37 on the Billboard 200. It spawned two singles, Fire Burning and Face Drop. Moreover, Sean co-wrote Jason Derulo’s Whatcha Say.
Before the release of his third album, Sean revealed two significant promotional singles. First, Eenie Meenie, featuring Justin Bieber and Letting Go (Dutty Love) with Nicki Minaj. While both became popular, the first was the subject of controversy in the rap community. Additionally, the singer released his first mixtape, King of Kingz in 2011, It included collaborations with Akon, Flo Rida and others. The album Back 2 Life came out in the fall of 2013, to mixed reviews. It featured appearances from several massive artists like Busta Rhymes and T.I but it didn’t spawn any memorable songs. Sean Kingston’s latest release is his mixtape Made in Jamaica. (March 2017)
