Misfits Biography

Misfits are the pioneers of the horror punk subgenre, which resulted after mixing punk rock with horror movie themes. The band’s musical experience can be split into two periods, based on the lead singers, Glenn Danzig and Michale Graves. Much like the movies that influenced them, Misfits, with their weird but catchy sound, developed a type of cult popularity.

Formation and Danzig Era

The peculiar band was formed in 1977, by Danzig and bassist Jerry Only. They named the band after Marylin Monroe’s final film. Shortly after, they released a controversial EP, Bullet. It was hard for them to find a studio willing to accept their work. Finally, in 1982 they released their debut studio album, Walk Among Us, which spawned a popular single Night of the Living Dead and also included the iconic song Skulls. In 1984 the band released the legendary farewell single Die, Die, My Darling, which ulteriorly received a cover by Metallica. In 1997 came Static Age, which had been recorded almost 20 years prior to its release. The album featured another track later covered by Metallica, Last Caress.

Graves Era

In 1996, the band reunited with Graves as the lead vocalist. One year later, the band released, American Psycho, the first album led by Graves’ clean, melodic vocals. It generated the singled one of the band’s most well-known songs, Dig Up Her Bones. They masterpiece also received a horror music video to match. However, the most successful album of this “era” was Famous Monsters, released in 2003. With tracks like Helena, Scream, Saturday Night or Descending Angel, the album became a fan favourite
