Betty Who Biography

Jessica Anne Newham, known by her stage name Betty Who is a synthpop, indie pop and electronic music singer. She made her commercial breakthrough in 2016, with the single Love You Always Forever.

Early Life & Career

Betty Who was born in Sydney, Australia but ulteriorly moved to the US, to study art. During her childhood and teen years, she learned to play cello, piano and guitar. She began writing at the age of 14 and performing at the age of 16. The young singer went to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she met producer Peter Thomas. In 2012 she released independently her debut single, Somebody Loves You. The song received massive appreciation online and created exposure for Betty. Additionally, a music video for it was released in 2013. Shortly after, Betty released her first EP, The Movement, another online immense success. Furthermore, it led to a collaboration between the uprising star and RCA Records.

Breakthrough & Success

Furthermore, it led to a collaboration between the uprising star and RCA Records.  Naturally, Betty’s Somebody Loves You topped the Billboard Dance/Club Splay Songs chart. Following up on that success, Betty released her second EP, Slow Dancing. It peaked at number 1 on the iTunes pop music charts. One of the singles, Heartbreak Dream, was included in the popular movie Pitch Perfect 2 (2015).

In 2014, Betty performed with one of her idols, Katy Perry and with Kylie Minogue during their tours.Moreover, the young singer made her TV debut on Watch What Happens: Live. Most noteworthy, she released her debut album in late 2014. Take Me When You Go spawned another number one hit, All Of You. In 2016, Betty Who released an extremely praised cover of Donna Lewis’ I Love You Always Forever. In March 2017, her second album, The Valley, came out.
