Early Life
Rebbeca Marie Gomez was born on March 2, 1997, in Inglewood, California. She began working as a child in commercials and acting in order to support her family. Gomez decided she wanted to have a career in music at 9 years old.
Career Beginnings
Rebecca released her first song as Becky G, with will.i.am on the track Problem, while working on her album. Before that, she made herself known online for covering songs like Kanye West and Jay-Z’s Otis and Frank Ocean’s Novacane. In 2012 she released her debut mixtape @itsbeckygomez. She then collaborated with Cody Simpson on his single Wish U Were Here. Next, Becky worked with Ke$ha on her single’s remix Die Young. Together with her 2013 EP Play It Again, she released her single as a solo artist called Becky from the Block. Shower was Becky’s first single to enter the top 20 in North America. The following year she released the song Lovin’ So Hard produced by Dr. Luke
