Vance Joy Biography

Vance Joy is an Australian indie and folk singer-songwriter.

Early Life

James Gabriel Keogh was born in Melbourne, Australia on 1 December 1987. He grew up playing football, however, chose music after he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws.

Career

Vance began his career playing open mic gigs in Melbourne while attending college. He soon found success with his intimate performances. Joy’s debut EP God Loves You When You’re Dancing spawned the single Riptide and found success in his country. It was certified triple-platinum in Australia.

Success

Vance’s first album was released in 2014 as Dream Your Life Away. He supported the LP with a tour and opened for Taylor Swift’s 1989 World Tour. In 2015 his previous single Riptide found success worldwide as well, reaching number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the Alternative and Rock Airplay charts. In 2015 he released the track Great Summer and won an ARIA Music award for Best Male Artist.
