Hozier Biography

Hozier is an Irish singer-songwriter and musician who released the powerful Take Me to Church song.

Early Life

Andrew Hozier-Byrne was born n March 17, 1990, in Bray, Ireland. His father was a blues musician and Andrew grew up around music.

Career Beginning

Hozier first joined a band at 15 and he later started college. He dropped out in order to work for Universal Music and release demos. Along with the Irish choral band Anúna, they toured from 2009 to 2012. Hozier found himself at the center of attention after the release of his viral video Take Me to Church. The EP of the same name was released in 2013. The single was included on his debut album Hozier.

Success

Take Me to Church was nominated for a Song of the Year Grammy award in 2015. The eponymous LP was a commercial success as it was at the top 10 in 11 countries. In addition, it was certified gold in Canada and the UK. Hozier then performed the song on various TV shows and at the notorious Glastonbury Festival. Cherry Wine was released to raise awareness about domestic violence in 2016.
