Fleet Foxes Biography

Fleet Foxes is an American indie folk band that garnered recognition from the EP Sun Giant and LP Fleet Foxes.

Early Beginnings

Robin Pecknold and Skyler Skjelse started off as a duo with Pecknold as lead songwriter, singing, and guitar, while Skjelset as lead guitar. In 2006 they released their first EP Fleet Foxes received well by the songwriting community for its quality. Thanks to their underground success, the duo was signed to the Sub Pop label in 2008.

Rising Popularity

Fleet Foxes‘ use of folk, rock and pop in the EP Sun Giant, attracted the attention of the press at festivals and live concerts. Christian Wargo (guitar) and Joshua Tillman (drums) joined the group, following the success. The critically acclaimed LP Fleet Foxes was released in 2008. The album was number 1 on the CMJ chart and received gold certification in the UK.

Touring and Success

From 2009 to 2011 they toured and performed in North America and England. The self-described less poppy second album was released in 2011 as Helplessness Blues. The record was nominated for Best Folk Album in 2012. Drummer Joshua Tillman left the group the same year. After a 5 year hiatus, Fleet Foxes were regrouped as a five piece band adding Wescott and Henderson as official members. Represented by Nonesuch Records, the LP Crack-Up will be revealed in June 2017. Third of May / Ōdaigaharathe lead single, was released in March the 2017.
