Colby O'Donis Biography

Colby O’Donis is an American singer-songwriter and producer. He is mostly known for the featured single with Lady Gaga and Akon, Just Dance.

Early Life

Descent from a Puerto Rican father, Colby O’Donis Colón was born in Queens, New York on March 14, 1989. His parents realized his potential after seeing him perform at 4 years old.

Career and Single Success

Colby started his career on the right foot, as he was the youngest artist ever to be signed by Motown Records. By the time he was 14, O’Donis was the opening act for stars like the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, and Ne-Yo. Upon meeting Akon, he formed a connection with him quickly. He was signed to Akon’s new record label Konvict Muzik 2 years later. Colby’s first and only huge break came with the single Just Dance, featured in his debut album Colby O. He gained a Best Dance Recording nomination in 2008.

Hiatus

Following his success, he collaborated with Malaysian artist Mizz Nina on the track What You Waiting For. The single found radio success in South Asian countries. In 2011, he was signed to Z-Entertainment Records, followed by a digital track release Like Me. After a long break, he began writing and producing his second album entitled Start Over in 2013. Although he released its singles, the album is yet to be released.
