Axwell Biography

Axwell is an award winning Swedish DJ and record producer. He was part of the electronic music group “Swedish House Mafia”.

Early Life

Sven Axel Christofer Hedfors was born on 18 December 1977 in Lund, Sweden. He taught himself to play drums at age 9 and at 13 he was focusing on creating music on his computer. He released his first trance EP “OXL” in 1995 under the alias Quazar.

Career

Axwell’s breakthrough arrived with the “Feel the Vibe” track released in 2004. The song gained radio popularity and became the biggest crossover dance record of 2005. His “Libre” collaboration with Isabel Fructuoso proved to be good as it was licensed in over 12 countries. The following success was the club hit “Wait a Minute” featuring Nevada. At the same time, he was producing remixes for the likes of Usher, Maroon 5, Pharell, Nelly Furtado and Madonna. In 2005 the “Watch the Sunrise” release reached number 3 on the UK Dance Singles Chart. Meanwhile. Axwell launched his own record label Axtone.

“The Swedish House Mafia” and Other Ventures

In 2007, Axwell along with Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso performed under the alias “The Swedish House Mafia” a show received to excellent reviews. In 2008, he worked with Cindy Lauper on her album and released remixes for Adele. He was nominated for a Grammy with Dirty South for “Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical” in 2010. During 2011, Axwell co-wrote and co-produced the worldwide hit “Wild Ones” featured by Flo Rida and Sia. The second Grammy nomination for the same category was received for the remix “In My Mind” by Ivan Gough and Feenixpawl featuring Georgi Kay. Starting 2013, he released a few hit Beatport singles as well as forming the group “Axwell Λ Ingrosso” with fellow member “The Swedish House Mafia” Sebastian Ingrosso.
